High above the waters of Lake Bled, surrounded by the Julian Alps, stands one of Slovenia's most remarkable wedding venues.
Bled Castle is more than a beautiful setting. Its centuries-old architecture, stone courtyards and extraordinary views offer a distinctive environment for couples planning a Bled Castle wedding as part of a destination wedding in Slovenia.
But choosing a remarkable location is only the beginning.
From ceremony spaces and wedding receptions to practical planning and creative design, there is much to consider when organising a wedding at Bled Castle.
Having designed a wedding within these historic walls, we have experienced firsthand how the character of the castle can shape an entire creative concept.

Why Choose Bled Castle for Your Wedding?
There are few places in Slovenia where architecture and landscape meet quite so dramatically.
Perched on a cliff above Lake Bled, the castle offers sweeping views of the lake, its island and the surrounding mountains.
Its stone walls, intimate courtyards and historic interiors create an atmosphere that feels established rather than manufactured.
For couples travelling from abroad, the setting offers something particularly valuable: a destination with a strong identity.
And from a design perspective, that identity is where the most interesting possibilities begin. Rather than treating the castle as a neutral backdrop, we see its architecture as an active part of the wedding design.
Where Can You Get Married at Bled Castle?
Different spaces within the castle offer different possibilities for a wedding ceremony.
The Upper Castle Terrace and Lapidarium
The upper courtyard is among the most recognisable ceremony settings at Bled Castle. Its historic stone architecture and open-air surroundings create a distinctive setting for exchanging vows.
For floral design, the proportions of the space are particularly important. Carefully positioned compositions can frame the ceremony without obscuring the architecture.
The Knights' Hall
For couples who prefer an indoor setting, the Knights' Hall offers an alternative with a distinctly historic atmosphere.
The enclosed space creates different opportunities for lighting, floral compositions and ceremony arrangements. It may also provide an option for receptions and smaller celebrations, depending on the agreed layout and guest numbers.
The Castle Chapel
The Gothic chapel is an option for couples considering a religious ceremony. Its historic interior requires a particularly sensitive approach to decoration, respecting both the architecture and the requirements of the ceremony.
Religious arrangements must be discussed with the relevant church authorities and venue management.
The Castle Park
The castle park is another setting to explore when considering a ceremony. Availability, suitability and the arrangements permitted in this area should be confirmed directly with the castle.
Wedding Reception and Dinner at Bled Castle

A wedding at Bled Castle can extend beyond the ceremony itself. Depending on the event arrangements, celebrations may include a reception in the courtyard, a wedding dinner at the castle restaurant or a gathering in the Knights' Hall.
Each space offers a different atmosphere and different possibilities for design. The castle restaurant provides a setting where architecture, dining and the surrounding landscape become part of the experience.
For larger or more elaborate celebrations, practical considerations such as guest capacity, dining layouts, service access and installation times should influence the creative concept from the beginning.
Beautiful design must also work in practice.
How Much Does a Bled Castle Wedding Cost?
The cost of a wedding at Bled Castle depends on much more than the ceremony itself. The number of guests, selected spaces, style of celebration and level of service all influence the overall investment.
When planning a destination wedding, it is important to distinguish between the venue's wedding arrangements and the complete experience you wish to create.
A wedding at Bled Castle may involve several elements:
- Ceremony and venue fees — the selected ceremony location, venue arrangements and any additional spaces.
- Wedding reception and catering — dining, drinks, service and the overall hospitality experience.
- Wedding design and floral installations — the creative concept, flowers, materials, decorative elements and spatial design.
- Photography and videography — documenting the celebration.
- Music and entertainment — creating the atmosphere throughout the event.
- Wedding planning and coordination — managing arrangements, suppliers, schedules and the wedding day.
- Transport and guest logistics — coordinating arrivals, transfers and practical details.
- Technical production and equipment — lighting, sound, installations and other production requirements.
Planning the Complete Experience
No two weddings at Bled Castle need to look or feel the same.
An intimate ceremony with a thoughtfully designed floral setting is a very different project from a multi-day destination celebration involving elaborate installations, several locations and a complete programme of events.
At Sanjski šopek, we approach each wedding individually. Beyond creative design, we can take care of the planning, coordination and production, bringing the different elements together into one considered experience.
We work with the venue and selected partners to develop a cohesive plan, coordinate the necessary arrangements and ensure that the creative vision can be realised in practice.
Rather than beginning with a predefined package, we begin with the couple, their ideas and the possibilities of the location.
The result is a wedding shaped around your vision, with the creative and organisational details thoughtfully connected.
Planning a Bled Castle Wedding from Abroad
Planning a wedding in another country brings exciting possibilities, but also a number of decisions that are easier to navigate with local knowledge and experienced guidance.
From choosing the right ceremony setting to coordinating suppliers, guest arrangements and the wedding day itself, every decision contributes to the overall experience.
At Sanjski šopek, we bring together creative direction, wedding planning and coordination, helping international couples organise their celebration in Slovenia with a clear vision and a thoughtful approach.
Legal or Symbolic Ceremony?
One of the first decisions is whether you would like a legally recognised marriage ceremony in Slovenia or a symbolic celebration.
The requirements for a legal marriage depend on your nationality and personal circumstances. We can help you understand the planning process and coordinate with the relevant local contacts, while official documentation and legal requirements remain subject to confirmation by the appropriate authorities.
Choosing the Right Date and Setting
Bled has a distinctive character in every season.
Spring introduces fresh colours and softer landscapes. Summer brings long days and opportunities for outdoor celebrations. Autumn offers rich natural tones, while winter transforms the surroundings into a completely different setting.
The season influences more than the atmosphere. It also affects floral availability, lighting, guest comfort and the practical possibilities for installations and outdoor events.
We consider these elements together when developing the wedding concept.
Guest Experience and Logistics
A destination wedding is not only about the ceremony and reception. It is also about how guests experience the celebration.
Accommodation, transport, arrival schedules and the transitions between different parts of the day all deserve careful consideration.
Through our planning and coordination services, we can help connect these arrangements into a coherent event programme, working with selected local partners.
Weather and Alternative Arrangements
Outdoor celebrations require flexibility, especially in a location surrounded by mountains.
A well-considered alternative is part of good wedding planning, not a compromise.
We approach contingency arrangements as part of the overall concept, considering how the atmosphere, floral design and guest experience can be preserved if the celebration needs to move indoors.
One Team, From Concept to Celebration
The strongest wedding experiences are created when design and organisation develop together.
Our creative and planning approach connects the visual concept with practical decisions, supplier coordination, production and on-site execution.
Rather than treating these as separate services, we bring them together into one cohesive process, allowing couples to enjoy the experience of planning their wedding with greater clarity and confidence.
Old Hollywood / Contemporary glamour / Sanjski šopek
A Wedding We Designed at Bled Castle
For one of our weddings at Bled Castle, designer Metka Sporiš developed a creative concept inspired by the glamour of Old Hollywood.
The intention was never to recreate a historical period. Instead, we explored how its visual language could be reinterpreted within the castle's distinctive architecture.
Intense red became the defining element of the design. Rich floral compositions, sculptural forms, textiles, chandeliers and carefully considered installations introduced a contemporary expression into the historic setting.
The contrast was intentional. The stone architecture provided structure and permanence. Organic floral forms and layered materials brought movement, softness and visual depth.

One of the most distinctive elements was an installation combining gathered white fabric, floral compositions and black-and-white film projections. Moving images transformed the textile surface, creating a relationship between light, material and architecture.
Even fruit became part of the design vocabulary, introducing additional shapes, textures and volume to the compositions.
Nothing was selected simply to fill the space. Every element contributed to the overall composition.
A remarkable venue does not need to be transformed into something else. The most interesting design begins by understanding what is already there.
Complete Wedding Design and Planning at Bled Castle
At Sanjski šopek, we see every wedding as an opportunity to create something distinctive.
Led by designer Metka Sporiš, our approach begins with the character of the location and the people who will experience it. We explore the relationships between architecture, colour, materials and floral compositions, developing a creative concept that feels both personal and connected to its surroundings.
Our work at Bled Castle reflects this philosophy. Rather than following a conventional decorative approach, we introduced unexpected contrasts, sculptural floral arrangements and contemporary installations into a historic setting.
This creative vision extends beyond design. With planning, coordination and production brought together as part of our comprehensive service, we can carry an idea from its earliest concept through to its final execution.
One creative vision. One seamless experience.
